Struggle for the continuity of the Fourth International

trotsky

Founded in 1938, the Fourth International was based on the struggle of Leon Trotsky and the Left Opposition against Stalinism. The Fourth International alone embodied the principles of genuine Marxism and of the 1917 Russian Revolution, and alone it kept alive the fight for international socialist revolution. The International Committee of the Fourth International was formed in 1953 to defend the Fourth International against the Pabloite revisionist tendency that sought its liquidation. In 1985, the ICFI defended the continuity of Trotskyism against the betrayals of the British Workers Revolutionary Party.

The following collection of publications reviews this struggle and provides an essential introduction to understanding its history.

"Three decades after its initial publication, I believe that The Heritage has stood the test of time. While retaining substantial contemporary value as an introduction to the history of the Fourth International, The Heritage also examines problems relating to Marxist theory, program and strategy that remain highly relevant to the present-day struggle to build the World Party of Socialist Revolution."
